Ashwagandha – one of the most important plants in Ayurveda. Ashwagandha is a plant with many names: Withania somnifera, Indian ginseng, moth and winter cherry. It is a shrub with a characteristic smell that some people resemble… the smell of a horse. Due to its strengthening properties and specific smell, the plant was named “ashwagandha” (“ashwa” means horse and “gandha” means strength). It was said that you could gain horse health and strength by using ashwagandha.
The first records of ashwagandha’s properties come from ancient India, where it was considered a plant with healing and regenerating properties. Its regular consumption was to act as the elixir of youth and ensure a perfect mood for many years. For medicinal purposes, the leaves and the root of the sluggish welcome were used, because it is in these parts that the most beneficial substances are found. Their large number is found especially in the root.
